the Balboa Park Centennial

October 17, 2015, 9am-3pm

SAN DIEGO, CA — In honor of the Balboa Park Centennial, the Ranch Santa Fe Garden Club has teamed up with the Balboa Park Conservancy to host the inaugural Rancho Santa Fe Garden Fair & Market on Saturday, October 17, from 9am to 3pm, at the Rancho Santa Fe Association/Community Center Parking Lot (17022 Avenida de Acacias). Popular food trucks Tacos La Mezcla and Caliano by Spinelli will be on site to provide gourmet food concessions.

The Rancho Santa Fe Garden Fair & Market is the perfect opportunity to learn about water-wise irrigation systems and sustainable gardening and landscaping ideas and products. A series of 30-minutes lectures in the Community Center will cover such timely topics as rainwater harvesting, backyard aquaponics, and an update on current drought conditions in California.

Special guest presenter Thomas Herrera-Mishler, executive director of the Balboa Park Conservancy, will give a talk on Balboa Park’s efforts to incorporate sustainable landscaping techniques.

Creating a Competitive Nanny Profile in Los Angeles

WebWhen being represented by a Nanny service or agency in Los Angeles you should have the following necessary items.

-A resume.  It is important when you are professional nanny to have a  professionally written resume.  Make sure to details what your goals are, your work history including reference phone numbers and emails addresses, your education, and any special skills or certifications.

-Two valid forms of government approved ID such as a Social Security Card, Driver’s License,  or a Passport.  Any reputable Nanny service in the Los Angeles region will be focused on making sure you have the appropriate employment documents.

-Three professional references if not more.  These references and their validity will be investigated.

-Copies of any professional certifications such as CPR and First Aid Training, Newborn Care certifications, regional Los Angeles child development credentials (or credentials from another area).

-Possibly a photograph of yourself for a portfolio.

-Letters of recommendation.  Families that you have worked for in the past love to share information on your professional skills.  It always is impressive to arrive with copies of these in hand.

-Transcripts.  If you are proud of the classes you have taken and your grades have your transcripts prepared.

-Driving records.  Go to your DMV website and run your DMV.  In Los Angeles you can visit the CA DMV site and pull your records for $2.

Being a Nanny in Los Angeles is a competitive place to work.  Nanny services that are reputable will require most of these documents.  For further information on how to make the best possible impression call Crunch Care of Los Angeles for a consult.  www.crunchcare.com

Being a Personal Assistant in Orange County

Love animals.Typically a personal assistant is thought of as someone who is a secretary or administrative assistant working for a particular person in a business or corporate setting.  Many
y individuals and/or families also have personal assistants, who are sometimes referred to as household managers in a domestic setting, to assist with daily or weekly activities and tasks.  A personal assistant in a domestic setting is basically an extra set of hands to help keep a family’s life and household running smoothly.  So, why have a personal assistant in Orange County?  What are the benefits of one?  As I have already alluded to, a personal assistant is there to help you with various household duties such as errands, maintenance, and een simple administrative tasks.
Many individuals and families have very busy lives.  Whether they are spending their time working or caring for their family.  Often taking care of the important things in life (family, children, work, etc.) leaves little time to take care of those pesky little things that need to be done such as grocery shopping or picking up the dry cleaning.  While the household errands are necessary to keep a household running smoothly, they are rarely the best use of your time.  Spending time taking your children to the park or the beach, or taking that client meeting or call will almost certainly provide more value both from a standard of living and financial perspective.  Getting someone to help out with the household errands will free you up so that you can spend your time doing things that will provide more value in your and your family’s life.

Personal assistants in Orange County are not just for running those household errands.  Many are also accustomed to scheduling and handling household maintenance (cable company, plumber, electrician, handyman, etc.).  Rather than spending your afternoon waiting for the cable company to
show up between 12pm and 4pm (only for them to arrive at 6pm), you can have your assistant can not only schedule the appointment, but wait for them to arrive.  They can further maximize their time, and make your life easier, by tackling household organizational projects while they wait.

It is also not uncommon for the role of a personal assistant to evolve to include certain administrative tasks such as booking family travel.  In fact, many personal assistants also help out with simple administrative things that may need to be done for work such as expense reports, and depending upon their experience even things like invoicing and billing for small business owners.

If you are looking for a personal assistant in Orange County, give Crunch Care a call at (949) 415-7350 to find out how we can help.

The Best Interview Skills Possible

Full Time NannyAs discussed in a previous article, I am often asked by nannies how they should market themselves when seeking employment.  Again, looking for a position as a nanny in Orange County is really not much different then looking for a job in the business world.  You have to present yourself as a competent, reliable professional.  The first step to that end is having a well written resume, which I discussed in my previous article.  So now you have your resume together, what’s next?  That would be preparing yourself for the interview!  Chances are you will have a minimum of two interviews…  the first being over the phone when the family or agency contacts you, and the second would likely be in-person.  Communication is extremely important as a nanny, so coming off well both over the phone and in person is very important.  Once you apply for the job you should be ready to discuss not only your experience and qualifications for the position, but also what your current situation is and what your long term goals and plans are.

While your experience and qualifications for the position will already laid out on your resume, you will still need to discuss in more detail.  You will want to tell the family or agency what age groups you have experience with, and what your job duties are.  You will want to highlight any position and/or duties that are out of the ordinary for a typical nanny position, and are often a plus as a nanny in Orange County.  For example, if you have experience working with special needs children, or working with a gavage tube.  Whether on the phone or in-person, let the family or agency guide the interview.  Do not monopolize the conversation, give them a chance to talk and ask the questions they want to ask.  Avoid going off on tangents, stick to discussing what the person conducting the interview would like to discuss.

Discussing what your current situation as well as long term goals and plans is also very important.  Many families and/or agencies will want to know why you are looking for work, what happened with your last position, and whether or not you are currently working or going to school.  They will also likely want to know what your long term goals and plans are, especially if the position is long term.

If you are looking for work as a nanny in Orange County, please submit your resume for review to orangecounty@crunchcare.com.

Leave it to the Professionals

nanny-doing-crafts-with-kidsIn life we are accustomed to paying professionals to do things for us like fix our cars, invest our money, and even to cut our hair. So why not to care for our children? Opting for professional child care as opposed to the teenager down the street, or the neighbor’s cousin has many benefits. The benefits of professional child care in Orange County include working with someone that knows how to create a fun, safe environment for your children, and will be proactive about their non-child care duties.

Professional nannies do a great job of finding fun and interesting activities and projects to work on with their charges. They spend time looking for ideas on Pinterest and Google, and go out of their way to ensure the children are actively engaged with things other than TV and electronics. Additionally, and often just as important to may families as caring for their children, they are pro-active about their non-child care duties. A professional that sees a need to organize the children’s toys or bedroom, will take it upon themselves do it without being asked. The proactive and creative nature of a professional nanny is very desirable to many families.

If you are looking for professional child care in Orange County, we at Crunch Care are here to help. Give us a call at (949) 415-7350 to get more details and find out how we can help your family find the right nanny.
